CROCC
Race Around the Island 2012
Sanctioned by USACK

Columbia River Outrigger Canoe Club (CROCC) is proud to present the 17th Annual Race Around the Island (RATI) to kick off the 2012 PNW-ORCA Summer Race Season. We hope you will join us at Chinook Landing Marine Park in Fairview Oregon on April 14, 2012.
Chinook Landing is a 67 acre marine park with a six-lane public boat ramp, picnic areas with a large parking lot, flush restrooms, a seasonal river patrol station and connections to Portland’s 40 mile loop trail. The site also includes interpretive signage, mainly about the nearby wetlands. Lewis and Clark likely stopped near the site.
For those paddlers/ teams who CROCC members will be housing; our club will be hosting a feast which will be served Friday the night before the race between 6:30 – 7:30 PM. Please let us know if you will be attending so that we can be prepared.
A Continental Breakfast, Coffee, and Water will be provided to our participants. We will also be selling a plate lunch consisting of Macaroni Salad and Chili (Veggie and Carnivore versions) w/ Rice.
At the end of the day, there will be a Raffle and Awards presentation.
Events:
The Long course is a 8-10 mile paddle around Island, and is open to all divisions. The short course is a 4-6 mile loop also open to all divisions.
**All course lengths are subject to change due to conditions.
Open to Mixed, Women, and Men, with Open, Masters, Senior Masters, and Kupuna Divisions. Teams may chose to race in the Unlimited class.
Pre-registration opens immediately and closes on April 6, 2012. Early entries will receive 2 extra raffle tickets per paddler. Make checks payable to “CROCC”.

Two years ago I purchased an all carbon paddle made by Warner and loved it so much I decided to become a rep for them. Currently I have a few paddles on hand that have been slightly used as demo’s that i would like to sell at an attractive discount.
Here’s what I currently have:
1 – 51” – $200
1 – 50” – $200
2 – 49” – $200
If you would like to know more about these paddles or why you would choose an all carbon over a hybrid or wood, please go to my website http://www.outriggerwarrior.com/paddles.html for a quick read. These paddles are one of the lightest on the market and run for $260 new.
First thing I usually hear is …light paddles aren’t good because rough water and wind can rip them out of your hands! Well I have paddled in several Gorge races both on my OC1 and OC6 with mine and never once came close to losing it like everyone was telling me I would. It is different…it will feel more like an extension of your body vs a tool you are swinging around. A lighter paddle will decrease your fatigue in the long run so that you are able to apply more power. Here’s your chance to give one a try….I would be glad to loan one out for a practice if you are interested, just either email me or call.
See you all on the water!
